Summary: Throughout a more than a century long existence of basketball it has evolved from a
children’s entertainment to a professional sport. As it is a relatively young sport we are able follow it’s

development. When James Naismith’s students played this game for the first time, nobody imagined it
would get so popular. Today there is probably no person in the world that hasn’t heard about basketball

and no person in the world of basketball that hasn’t heard about James Naismith. When it comes to rules
they have drastically changed from those first thirteen rules that Naismith wrote, but the core of the

game is still the same. Basketball’s popularity has been risen mostly by exceptional players who keep
breaking world records in speed and skills.

Rezime: Kroz više od sto godina postojanja košarke ovaj sport se razvio od dečije zabave do
profesionalnog sporta. Kako je to relativno mlad sport u mogudnosti smo da pratimo njegov razvoj. Kada
su učenici Džejmsa Najsmita prvi put igrali ovu igru nisu ni sanjali da de postati tako popularna. Danas

verovatno ne postoji osoba na svetu koja nije čula za košarku niti osoba u svetu košarke koja nije čula za

Džejmsa Najsmita. Što se tiče pravila, ona su se drastično promenila od onih prvih trinaest pravila koja je
Najsmit napisao, ali srž igre je ostala ista. Popularnost košarke je porasla najviše zahvaljujudi izvanrednim

igračima koji nastavljaju da obaraju svetske rekorde u brzini i veštini.
