               ABSTRACT

Music is a form of expression, and a cognitive ability. This research paper focuses on “pure” of
“absolute” music – instrumental music that is not accompanied by non-musical components.
Instrumental music is very similar to the language. And this “pure” music even reflects musician’s native
language. It is this similarities and the central role of language and music in our existence that call for
comparison. And when comparing music and language one question is brought upon our attention: Can
music be seen as universal language?Music surely is not universal language in the sense that it can be
used to express any thought. Music not only crosses cultures and reaches deep into human's
evolutionary past, but it also has power to evoke deep primal feeling. And in that sense, music is truly a
               universal language.

Key words: music, language, communication, emotions.

               APSTRAKT

Muzika predstavlja oblik izražavanja i kognitivnu sposobnost.
Muzika zasigurno nije univerzalan jezik
u smislu da može izražavati svaku misao. Međutim, muzika povezuje ljude i da izaziva jaka i duboka
osedanja i u tom smislu, muzika jeste univerzalni jezik.

Ključne reči: muzika, jezik, komunikacija, emocije.
