REZIME
inhibicije porasta bakterijskih kolonija oko diskova filter papira. Obradom dobijenih rezultata utvrđeno je
postojanje antibakterijske aktivnosti karbamid peroksida prema Str. mutans vrsti.

SUMMARY
The effect of carbamide peroxide on a cariogenic species of oral streptoccoci, Str. mutans, was
investigated. The antimicrobial activity of carbamide peroxide was examined by using the disk diffusion
method. The strain of Str. mutans that was used was isolated from the oral cavity of a volunteer. Filter
paper disks were soddened by different concentrations of carbamide peroxide (10%, 16%, 20%) and
placed on a plate containing TYC-SB agar, that has been priorly inoculated with Str. mutans, which would
grow and form a lawn of growth. The plates were incubated for 20 hours on 37ºC in anaerobic conditions.
Using a metric ruler, the diameter of the zone of inhibition around each filter paper disk was measured.
After analyzing the results, it can be concluded that carbamide peroxide has an antimicrobial
effect on Str. mutans. The higher concentrations of the agent had a better antimicrobial effect than lower
concentrations, which was proven by statistical analysis of the results.
